Highlights

This tour is so packed, that it is hard to pick the highlights.  Each region has its own atmosphere and highlights.  You are going to experience all that Iceland is famous for.

DAY 1

Arrival in Reykjavik.   Taking the bus from the airport to town,  we guide you to your accommodation.   We should have some time to explore Reykjavik sights, like the contemporary cathedral, wander by the water front and explore some cafe life.   Let us know if you want to extend your time in Reykjavid and we can add some days either at the beginning or end of the tour.

Reykjavík

Iceland's capital Reykjavík is a vibrant and dynamic city. From whale watching to food tours, you'll be sure to find an activity perfect for you.

DAY 2

Geysir

The geothermal area of Geysir is the home of bubbling mud pools and erupting hot springs. It is one part of the Golden Circle trio along with Þingvellir National Park and the waterfall Gullfoss. 

Gullfoss

Gullfoss waterfall is one of Iceland's most beloved waterfalls. The river Hvítá makes a dramatic plunge down 32 metres into a canyon. 

Kerið

Kerið is a volcanic crater lake believed to have been once an active volcano that erupted and collapsed. Check out this Golden Circle tour which includes Kerið

DAY 3

Seljalandsfoss

Seljalandsfoss waterfall is a unique waterfall in South-Iceland. A pathway leads to a cave behind the curtain of water, so you'll be able to enjoy the cascade from all angles. 

Skógafoss

Skógafoss is one of Iceland's biggest waterfalls with a width of 25 metres and a 60-metre drop. According to legend, a treasure is buried in a cave behind this cascade. 

Dyrhólaey

Dyrhólaey is a peninsula where you can get a great panoramic view of the landscape around; the black sand beaches, the lava columns and the glacier Mýrdalsjökull. 

Reynisfjara

Reynisfjara beach is known for its black sands, towering basalt column cliffs and jagged rock formations that rise out of the ocean. 

Vík

The village of Vík is a small but far from sleepy village in the south of Iceland. Situated near the black sand beach Reynisfjara, this town is the perfect place to stop and refuel on a South Coast trip.

DAY 4

Kirkjubæjarklaustur

Kirkjubæjarklaustur is a village in South-Iceland with around 120 inhabitants. It is a great place to stay while travelling Iceland's southern shore. 

Skaftafell 

Skaftafell is a stunning nature reserve is located in Vatnajökull National Park. It is a great place for hiking as there are many trails in the area. 

Svartifoss

Svartifoss waterfall is framed by dark basalt columns that were the inspiration for the famous Hallgrímskirkja church in Reykjavík. 

Fjallsárlón

Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon is one of Iceland's hidden treasures. Its isolation make it one of the most unique places in the country.

Jökulsárlón

Jökulsárlón is a glacier lagoon where enormous icebergs drift. A short distance from the beach is the Diamond beach, where ice chunks from the lagoon have washed up on shore.

DAY 5

Höfn

Höfn is a fishing village in the beautiful Hornafjörður bay. There you can see scenic view of the enormous Vatnajökull glacier.

DAY 6

Djúpivogur

Djúpivogur is a small coastal village in East-Iceland. From the village you can take a ferry ride to the island Papey.

Egilsstaðir

The largest town in East-Iceland is Egilsstaðir. It is located near the river Lagarfljót, where a monster is said to dwell, and the forest Hallormsstaðaskógur 

Dettifoss

Dettifoss is the most powerful waterfall in Iceland. Located in the north-east part of the country, this cascade was featured in the 2012 Ridley Scott film Prometheus.

Ásbyrgi

Ásbyrgi is a stunning canyon in Vatnajökull National Park. It was believed that the god Odin's horse stepped one of his eight legs on the ground and formed Asbyrgi.

Mývatn

The Mývatn lake is a stunning lake where you'll find pseudocraters. The whole Mývatn area contains spectacular natural wonders such as bubbling mud pools, strange lava formations and hot water springs. 

Krafla

Krafla is a caldera and the area surrounding it is highly volcanic. Krafla erupted 9 times from 1975-1984.

DAY 7

Húsavík

Húsavík is a town in northern Iceland. Numerous whale watching tours depart from the Húsavík harbour every day and the town also sports a great whale museum. 

We recommend the 3 hours standard tour which costs an optional 80€.

DAY 8

Goðafoss

The water of the river Skjálfandafljót falls from a height of 12 metres over a width of 30 metres.

Akureyri

Akureyri is the largest settlement outside of the Reykjavík area. It's a great base for visiting the surrounding activities.

Siglufjörður

Siglufjörður is the northernmost town of Iceland's mainland. The town is famous for its herring era museum, folk music museum an an annual folk music festival.

Blönduós

The town of Blönudós is located on the banks of Húnaflói bay. On the other side of the bay you'll find Hvítserkur (pictured), a famous rock formation that rises out of the ocean.

DAY 9

Stykkishólmur

Stykkishólmur is a small fishing village on Snæfellsnes peninsula. From the village you can take a ferry to the small island of Flatey in Breiðafjörður bay.

DAY 10

Kirkjufell

Kirkjufell is a 463-metre high mountain on Snæfellsnes peninsula that some say resembles a church. 

Arnarstapi

Arnarstapi and the nearby Hellnar are two small hamlets on Snæfellsnes peninsula.

DAY 11

Borgarnes

Borgarnes is a town of around 1763 people, located on a peninsula at the shore of Borgarfjordur. About 4 km outside Borgarnes is the church and vicarage at Borg

Hraunfossar

Hraunfossar are beautiful waterfalls where the water cascades down cliffs of dark lava. A stones-throw away are the scenic Barnafossar waterfalls. 

Deildartunguhver

Deildartunguhver is a hot spring in Reykholt in the Borgarfjörður district. It has the highest flow rate for a hot spring in Europe. 

Þingvellir

The UNESCO site Þingvellir National Park is located in a rift valley where two tectonic plates are drifting apart. It is also where Iceland's parliament was founded in the year 930 AD.

DAY 12

Farewell

Time for some souvenir shopping and a stroll through the trendy streets of Reykjavik.

FOOD

In all the accommodation we have access to a kitchen, meaning that you will have freshly prepared vegan food.  A chance to discover and test some new recipes.  Lunch packs of salads, fruit, cakes will be prepared, so bring a bento box or equivalent food container, with seperate compartments.  We also have the option of discovering some vegan restaurants.

Food costs will be managed using a kitty.  Expect to pay around 20€ per day, for 3 meals.  Visiting restaurants will increase the cost, depending on the qualifty of the restaurants you choose.
